AHA Standards
The author supports the January 2003 American Historical Association's (AHA) Statement on Standards of Professional Conduct regarding scholarly integrity in regard to sources: "All historians believe in honoring the integrity of the historical record... Honoring the historical record also means leaving a clear trail for subsequent historians to follow. This is why scholarly apparatus in the form of bibliographies and annotations (and associated institutional repositories like libraries, archives, and museums) is so essential to the professional practice of history... Historians should practice their craft with integrity. They should honor the historical record. They should document their sources. They should acknowledge their debts to the work of other scholars."
